Contact Wire Device










The current revision 5 is optimised for production and ready for extensive field trials. It uses the RP2040 as the central processor with Bluetooth support via the embedded ESP32. Sensor modules underneath the unit are replaceable to suit new application requirements.

3D modelling was a key facet of the design process, both to develop parts for testing, checking part alignment, and building jigs to assist with assembly of the device and sensors.

Fine tuning of the measurement algorithm was carried out using machine learning and 3D printed parts. Refinement of the design included relocation of the peripherals onto the PCB and removing the LCD. This greatly simplified assembly of the unit.

First prototype brings all the peripherals together within a 3D printed enclosure.

A bread-boarded system based on the Raspberry Pi Pico, TFT screen, sensors and bluetooth module demonstrate that the selected peripherals are easy to work with.
